What it is

Gynecomastia surgery in Como is a male aesthetic surgery procedure that removes glandular tissue and/or excess fat from the male chest to restore a flat, toned, and defined torso. Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in men, which can have hormonal, pharmacological, or idiopathic causes. It is the ideal solution if you have an increase in male breast volume that causes aesthetic or psychological discomfort, or if you desire a flat and defined chest. It is perfect for those seeking a permanent result that significantly improves aesthetic appearance and comfort when wearing tight-fitting clothing.

Gynecomastia surgery is one of the most rewarding procedures in male aesthetic surgery, offering immediate and visible results.

How it is performed

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia in a day hospital setting or with a one-night stay. The surgeon assesses whether the gynecomastia is predominantly glandular or adipose. In cases where the glandular component is prevalent, the excess glandular tissue is removed through a periareolar incision (around the areola), which is virtually invisible. In cases where the adipose component is prevalent, liposuction is used to suction out the excess fat. Often, gynecomastia involves both components, so the procedure combines glandular removal and liposuction. The result is a flat, proportionate, and natural-looking chest.

The technique is personalized: the surgeon tailors the approach based on the composition of the gynecomastia.

Disclaimer

This procedure must be performed exclusively by a qualified and certified plastic surgeon in an authorized and accredited facility. It requires a thorough preliminary medical evaluation to exclude hormonal (hyperthyroidism, hypogonadism, tumors) or pharmacological (certain medications cause gynecomastia) causes of gynecomastia. Preliminary blood and instrumental tests are necessary. It is contraindicated in cases of uncontrolled endocrinological disorders, testicular tumors, active infections. Results vary based on skin quality, degree of laxity, proportion between glandular and adipose components, and individual healing response. If gynecomastia is due to hormonal or pharmacological causes, these must be managed by an internist before the procedure. It is essential to scrupulously follow post-operative instructions to achieve the best results and optimal scarring.
